Dia de los Muertos
A couple of years ago H and I went to Cabo and I really became fascinated by the Katrinas and Day of the Dead skulls and themes. Browsing online I found http://www.mexicansugarskull.com/ and bought a sugar skull mold. I've been working on these guys catch-as-catch can. Two weeks ago I got them molded and last week I got the front and backs of the skulls assembled. Last night after the girls went to bed, and with the Big Day looming close, I finally started decorating them.
I have a lot to learn about the art of icing, but not a bad first try. I loosened my grip on perfectionism and allowed myself to enjoy the experiment. I had a lot of fun and am very happy with the results so far. I left some room on them to add in some red. I couldn't get my red icing quite red enough. Maybe I will buy one of those cans of red squirt icing.
We finally went to bed about 1am. H was really nice to help clean up the icing that, in his words, was "EVERYWHERE!"
